The Benefits of Reiki

Reiki Therapy

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive, natural method of healing using laying-on of hands and it treats the body holistically. Reiki restores balance and harmony at all levels, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.

What does Reiki mean?
The origin of the word Reiki is a Japanese word and comes from Rei and Ki. "Rei" means universal and "Ki" means life-force energy (same as Ch'i).

How does Reiki work?
The healer/therapist is a channel for this energy which flows through him or her, and through his or her hands it goes to the client.

Are there any contra-indications?
It can be used alongside any other orthodox or complementary therapies, and has no contra-indications or side-effects.

What happens before, during and after a Reiki treatment?
At the beginning of the session, you will be asked questions relevant to your health, and your answers will be treated in total confidentiality.

During a session, you will either be sitting or lying down, fully clothed. What actually happens depends on the length of the session, the areas to be treated and your general condition.

I will place my hands on your body in a number of different positions, allowing the energy to go through. You may feel, heat, a tingling sensation, sometimes coolness; you may see lots of vivid colours or images; you may feel very relaxed, and sometimes even fall asleep.

After the session, you will need to drink plenty of water to help the clearance of free radicals from the body, as the Reiki will already have started the clearing process.

Who can benefit from a session?
It benefits all individuals, from newborns to old people and everyone in between. It brings peace and deep relaxation to terminally ill clients, and is also highly recommended in palliative care. Reiki is also extremely beneficial to animals, as they tend to be very receptive to this type of energy.

Which type of complaints does Reiki treat?
Reiki relieves muscular and skeletal complaints. It helps with, long-term chronic illnesses as well as acute illnesses, and to name a few more specifically, insomnia, migraines, stress and anxiety, arthritis and back pain.

Reiki will treat any underlying issues behind the physical symptoms or disease, whether the client is aware of them or not.

It enhances any other healing therapy and empowers the individual to start a self-healing process with long-term benefits at all levels.

Why do I need to be attuned in order to heal myself or others?
This specific method of healing is transmitted via attunements. The teacher performs the attunement on the student, and the attuned student is then able to heal themselves or others. An attunement is like moving onto the correct wavelength to channel the healing.

What happens after an attunement?
Once you have been attuned, Reiki is activated by placing your hands on yourself or another person. This energy, with its own vibration, is drawn through the therapist’s hands and into the client’s body.
